Pro-Life Group Targets Republicans As Well As Democrats -- 08/31/2004

Pro-Life Group Targets Republicans...

Let me start by applauding the American Life League's efforts here. That should surprise some of the folks who accused me of promoting the "pro-abortion politician/Holy communion" issue for by-partisan political reasons. See, I'm not a right wing bomb thrower. No, this is a catholic issue for me, always has been. I would not support Schwarzenegger and Pataki nor would I support Gulianni for that matter, just as I will not support Kerry in November. I will not be a hypocrite and give Republicans a pass while I speak out against the Dems on this issue. And I agree that America's Catholic bishops should properly educate public officials who have shown a blatant disregard for the Church's teachings on abortion and the reception of Holy Communion. It needs to be stressed to both Republicans as well as Democrats.

For me, the statement “you can't be both Catholic and pro-abortion” rings true for both sides of the aisle.

Deal Hudson Deliberately Atacked

You have to ask yourself why? Why would the National Catholic Reporter deliberately attack Deal Hudson? Recently I wrote an article A House Divided, and this recent event further illustrates just how divided we Catholics really are. This is truly a sad event, and I for one refuse to allow this to hinder my opinion of Deal nor my support for Crisis or the efforts of Hudson regarding the election of the president. Personally, I do not think Deal should have resigned his position with the Republican National Committee's "Catholic Outreach" effort, however, I think I understand. I will just leave it at that... for now.

3 Catholic bishops unite on abortion

Add Archbishop John Donoghue of Atlanta, GA, Bishop Peter Jugis of Charlotte, NC and Bishop Robert Baker Diocese of Charleston, SC to the list of bishops who will deny communion to Catholic politicians who support a woman's right to abortion.

You’ll hear many different opinions on this, but those who oppose the bishops either do not believe the Eucharist is the real presence of Christ, don’t understand this is a Church matter and not a political one or don’t care about or are out of touch with Church teachings.
